Forgotten
This painting was started in Florida at the Forgotten Coast Plein Air event in March. It was a gorgeous day. We found several boats along the shoreline & this little one just drew me to it.
After I finished my sketching & block in, I settled in to finish the painting. Then I began hearing someone yelling at me from a clump of trees just a few yards down the shore. When I turned to see where the voice was coming from I caught a glimpse of a small tent & big cardboard box hidden in the trees behind some tall grass & shrubs. I hadn’t noticed them earlier. Apparently, the box & tent were someone’s home.
Well, should I try to finish painting or leave I wondered. The man didn’t seem aggressive & nothing he said made any sense. But he was obviously becoming more agitated with me being there. So I decided to pack it in & leave to prevent a bad situation. But I really liked what I’d begun & wanted to see it finished. Ahh the trials of painting plein air!! Well there’s always another spot & subject nearby anyway. And there was!
Fast forward - A few weeks later we attended the OPA convention in Wichita KS. Which was fantastic! As usual there were many vendors there. Some I knew of & a few new ones. It’s a great time to pickup some new supplies & save some money. So with new brushes & a fresh supply of paints I decided to finish this little piece. What a perfect time to experiment & break in some new tools. As I had hoped, it turned out to be a nice project.
