Her First Life Too
This piece was inspired by my mom. Being raised by a single mother led me to believe that she was invincible and perfect in every way. Then, like every other child, I finally saw my mom for the human that she is. This photo of her as a child reminds me of the innocence she still poses because this is also her first time living. I wanted parts of this painting to feel empty or unfinished, which is why I left white space. It symbolizes the continuous growth my mother is still going through as a person.
My work often mirrors my personal life and this piece proves to be no different. I enjoy vibrant colors that make my pieces feel more lively. It feels as if I’ve brought my emotions to life.
