Ode to Bunch Grass
Painted from reference sketches and memories of eastern Washington's Palouse Country, where I attended Washington State University to study and earn an MFA in painting (1972-74). The title is inspired by the poem "Bunch Grass" written by Robert Sund, (1929-2001) poet, painter and calligrapher whose legacy includes creating "The Poet's House" in Anacortes. His poem gave literary voice to the rolling wheat country east of the Cascade Mountains and is published in "Poems from Ish River Country", available at www.robertsundpoetshouse.org.
He wrote: "Somewhere in this ink bottle is a Starry Sky" which underscores his special magic with words . . . surely describing the art making process.
